BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment
Dr. Couzens administers small small doses of BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) under the skin to reduce the appearance of frown lines between your brows. The injection does not make a radical change, but does enhance appearance by minimally blocking nerve impulses and resulting muscle activity that cause moderate to severe frown lines. These lines soften in appearance within 24 to 48 hours of treatment, and the effect can last up to 4 months.
Most people between the ages of 18 and 65 can benefit from the treatment’s cosmetic effect; however, patients who have been diagnosed with a serious neurological disease may be advised to avoid it due to possible complications. Although there are no known side effects to the baby, women who are pregnant or breast-feeding may want to postpone BOTOX® treatment.
JUVÉDERM® XC Treatment
The loss of hyaluronic acid due to sunlight and aging causes skin to lose structure and volume, creating facial wrinkles and folds. Dr. Couzens offers JUVÉDERM®, a dermal filler treatment, as part of her commitment to comprehensive cosmetic dentistry. JUVÉDERM® XC is an FDA-approved option that helps restore hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that is abundant in youthful skin. The injection, given near the mouth, chin, and upper lip, is formulated with lidocaine, a common anesthetic, to offer a more comfortable experience, both during and after treatment. You can expect smooth, natural-looking results that can last up to a full year.
